Audio Mastering

I’ve been mastering music for well over 10 years. I’ve lost a lot of work due to broken hard drives, poor documentation, etc. I’m going to start building up an archive of work here.

In a nutshell i can provide around 90% quality of what a professional mastering engineer can at about 20% of what they charge. My masters have beaten other professional mastering engineers over the years.

I provide good audio masters to people on a low budget who don’t always want to spend over $100 a song on a mastered track. I charge $20 a song. I like helping people out if I have the time.

I like the challenge of getting poorly recorded music and making it sound as good as possible. Garage bands, dodgy bedroom recordings, etc.

I have done audio restorations on old cassettes for example where people recorded their bands on dodgy cassettes and wanted it restored and put to a digital format.

I have tried all the online virtual mastering programs and I’ve had crap results every time. Virtual online mastering charge around $20 a song. I’m extremely confident that my masters are better than what they can provide.

I can also provide information on some great mastering engineers that I have used ranging from $70 to $150 aus.

My room is acoustically treated to a certain degree. I have 8 to 9 inches of thickness in the corners. I use SonarWorks software to calibrate and equalise my room.

Some of the equipment I use include:

* Yamaha NS-10m speakers (for midrange)

* Neumann KH120a speakers

* Sony MDR-7520 studio headphones

* RME Fireface UFX converters

* API 2500 analogue compressor (for some classic analogue drive if needed)

* Lots of plugins (Fabfilter EQ, L2 limiter, etc)

I’ll start putting up demo’s soon.

Examples

Sash77 - Brain Candy (2009)

 A  guy at iF? Records had heard my song somewhere and asked if he could release it on his label. I said for sure so I thought i should have the song professionally mastered.

The first mastering engineer cost me US$70 and it sounded terrible. I was a bit shocked.  The 2nd guy i send the song to was some guy from Europe and he looked very professional. He had a history of doing song masters for people like Kylie Minogue and other pop stars.  He was US$150 at the time. The mastered song sounded very loud and distorted.

I sent the record label guy the mastered track and a version of my own mastered track. He said he liked my master and used that for the release. I’m still happy about it to this day lol. Here’s my mastered version of the track. This was back late 2009 …..

The Side To Sidies - Imogen (2016)

In 2016 I was briefly living in a house which had a nice sounding room which is where I mastered this track.

The Side To Sidies - Pump it up RMX (2020)

I mastered this track back in 2020 before my recent acoustic upgrade to the studio.

Back in 2016 i mastered some audio for my friends band. The audio was recorded onto a camcorder microphone.

The mastering was done in my previous house with a temporary studio.
